Here are your rights when you are protesting.
1) What can I do as a protester?
- You are allowed to protest (Duh)
- You are allowed to speak freely
- You are allowed to protest in public places and allowed private property
- You may need a permit to protest if you are blocking a street
- You are free to document the protest
- You are allowed to protest in front of public property as long as you don't interfere or obstruct them
- You are also allowed to counterprotest
2) What can't I do as a protester?
- You may be restricted from protesting in certain areas that are deemed dangerous (highway, runway of an airport, etc.)
- You may be restricted from protesting after a curfew
- You may be prosecuted if you destroy property during your protest
- You may be prosecuted if you hurt someone
- You may not be able to amplify sounds very loudly
- You can't make threats
3) What can and can't police do?
- They cannot confiscate your, view, or delete your data without a warrant
- They cannot search your belongings if you don't consent to them
- Police can order you to stop if it interferes anything
- You may be asked to move to the side if you do not have a permit
- Police are allow to break up a protest if it becomes dangerous
- Police must make it clear that they are breaking up the protest and provide a reasonable amount of time
- Police's main job is to make sure it is to protest
- Police can be undercover during a protest
- Police are allowed to do pat-downs
